Today you will be learning about hard and soft skills that you possess. This will help you with writing a cover letter in our Reading and Writing class, so make sure to write down any skills you may have on a piece of paper. I will let you use this paper for practice in the class.
Hard skills are referred to skills that are learned through training and experience, such as cooking or designing software.
Soft skills refer to qualities and attitudes, such as dependability and flexibility.
First, go to www.skills.edu.gov.on.ca and go to the Work Habits section of the website. Write down the habits you feel you have. Then, write a sentence for each work habit that shows a potential employer you have this quality.
Second, go to http://www.jobbank.gc.ca/es_all-eng.do and explore the essential skills profile for the occupation you are interested in. Write down some of the skills you need for this job from each section.
Third, go to www.conferenceboard.ca and search for Employabilty Skills 2000+ .
Review the skills under Personal Management and Teamwork. Consider your own experience: can you think of examples from your past that demonstrate you have some or all of these skills?
