Summaries of each paragraph:
Par. 1: Scientists have proven that the brains of teenagers differ from the brains of adults or children.
Par. 2: Scientists have discovered that the teen behaviors which worry parents most happen because of brain changes/development.
Also, they found that the brain continues to grow after the age of 3 and that the brain of an adult is smaller than the brain of a teenager.

Reading Skills - Scanning and Skimming

Good morning all,

PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU DO THE ACTIVITIES BELOW: Some of you have asked me about websites to practice certain skills that we learn in class. Whenever I look for online activities for you (the class), I always go on Google and search for the specific skills that I want you to practice or that we are working on. YOU can do the same at home. For example, to find these activities, I typed in the search bar scanning reading practice. Many different websites popped up. I clicked on each website on the first page one by one to find good activities. I scanned and skimmed the exercises to see if they are good.

You can do the same with ANY of the subjects that we practice in class.

For example, if we are practicing the Present Perfect and you want more practice at home, go on Google and type in Present Perfect Practice. If you want to find the best websites to practice English, go on Google and type in the best websites to practice English. Many websites will pop up. Play around on the websites to see what you like. The internet has so many useful resources! THIS IS A VERY SIMPLE AND IMPORTANT COMPUTER/SEARCH SKILL that you will need.

Now let’s do some exercises! Today you will practice scanning and skimming.

1. Go to the website below. Read about skimming and do the exercises.

2. Go to the website below. Do the skimming exercises. These exercises are based on skimming only one paragraph. Remember to read the first sentence.

3. Go to the website below. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. The first exercise involves scanning skills. You are timed. Read each question. Then scan the reading to find the answer. Once you are done, click on Next Exercise at the bottom of the page.

4. Go to the website below. Read the facts sheets for each entry level and do the worksheets.
